I’ve never had these crying fits before. I had two offers of marriage from men I liked very much indeed, but it never occurred to me to listen to either of them. Much more temperate; the discreet and joyless love of a virtuous, reluctant, condescending wife. At the same time she was wildly exultant at the resolution she had taken, the end she had made to her blunder. I enjoyed depicting the dichotomy of the peace and safety of the suburbs while also showing its dark side in the form of high school villain Katy Pfister, who, by the way, never gets her comeuppance like some of the other characters do.
